El Atico is the renovation of a top floor apartment built in the 60s. This dwelling has remained unaltered since then and its enormous terrace has never been fully utilised.
The project´s strategy is a full re-distribution of the internal layout: The back balcony is enclosed and transformed in a new corridor and the kitchen is moved from the entrance area into the south façade to create a direct connection with the external space and the living area.
The living´s door is enlarged to fit a wide sliding door and so is the master bedroom´s window transformed into a door, creating a new access to the terrace and improving the cross ventilation.
Increasing the openings in the south façade and moving the kitchen next to the living area let the owners enjoy more hours of sunshine and better views of their small oasis, without neglecting any guests of their guests, whether they are inside o alfresco.
El Atico es un proyecto de reforma integral, donde la superficie de terraza de esta vivienda iguala a la superficie interior. Esta vivienda de los años 60 había permanecido inalterada desde entonces, y su diseño original no había aprovechado todo el potencial de su imponente terraza.
El proyecto plantea una redistribución interior completa, donde el balcón trasero se cierra transformándose en espacio distribuidor y la cocina, antes relegada al espacio de entrada, se traslada hacia la fachada sur, para así tener una relación directa con la terraza y con el salón.
La puerta del salón, se amplia para acoger una gran puerta corredera, y la antigua ventana del dormitorio se transforma en una puerta, facilitando el acceso a la terraza y una mejor ventilación cruzada.
Al incrementar los huecos de la fachada sur y mover la cocina, los propietarios pueden disfrutar de más horas de sol y de las vistas de su pequeño vergel, sin descuidar a ningún de sus invitados ya sean los que están en el interior o los que están fuera.
